When World Youth Day (WYD) was held in Sydney in 2008, St Charles Borromeo hosted pilgrims from the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin in Ireland.
What a surprise then, when we were lining up to enter the site for catechesis and Mass, whilst in Madrid Spain for WYD, when one of our pilgrims, Elyse Dean, began talking to an Irish person on the line. This young person came from the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin.
Of course we explained how in 2008 we had people stay at our parish from this diocese. Then a couple of people were called over and it was Trish (who had organised the stay with our parish) and her two daughters who had attended WYD in 2008.
It was a great example of the universal church in action!
