20101026_YAH_-_Band_01On Saturday 23rd of October 2010, the 7th Birthday Luncheon of Young at Heart and a  Reunion of the Tuckshop Mothers of St Charles Primary, dating back to the middle 50’s  was held in Borromeo Hall.

Over 100 people were treated to a delicious meal after Fr Paul said grace.

Many old friendships were renewed with some ladies not having seen each other since their children had left St Charles School!

The gathering was graced by the attendance of Marie A, visiting from Cloudlands Retirement Village, North Parramatta, and who celebrates her 92nd birthday on the 18th November 2010. Marie was looking very well and very happy to meet up with The Tuckshop Mothers and The Coffee Club Ladies for a chat.

Many comments turned to the days when Mrs Murphy (RIP) and Marie ran the tuckshop. No tuckshop was ever managed so well that crusts were the only nibbles volunteers could have for free.

Fr Paul welcomed all the Tuckshop Mothers and thanked them for their years of service.

A beautiful floral arrangement was presented to Marie on behalf of all present for her devoted contribution to the school and to the parish community over many years. Marie’s reply was that she had enjoyed every minute of her time here at St Charles.

The Leichhardt Celebrity Brass Band, decked out with sunny yellow jackets, entertained the guests with some rousing band renditions. The Bandmaster even had all participating in a Mexican Wave, several times over.

Br Mark and several other band members paraded in, suitably attired, as French Gendarmes. In all, a very much appreciated entertainment.

The group wished Barbara a very warm bon voyage as next day she was off to London to visit her newest granddaughter, Alice Elizabeth, as well as Keira Rose. At times past, mother of the little girls, Catherine, had entertained our group with her singing and dancing. Marcus and his family are also looking forward to Granny’s visit.

In all, another successful function organised by our core group of volunteers in Young at Heart Committee.
