On Wednesday 13th October 2010, 27 of our group took off by coach via the M4 & M7 to visit The Hermitage Winery at Mittagong.
We were seated for Morning Tea at 10:30am. Spot on time!
After a Morning Tea of fresh muffins and tea/coffee, we visited the Chapel where Br Peter (of the Marist Brothers who have operated the farm since 1905) gave a brief history of the Chapel and the beautiful Religious Sculptures and Paintings within its walls.
An hour of wine tasting followed. The first planting of Pinor Noir took place in 1999.

This year they have a current release of 10 wines including this year’s special Sparkling Pinor Chardonnay.
We tasted 6 or 7 wines ( I lost count after 3!!). Br Peter gave an interesting talk about the vineyards, the wines and other farm activities and seasonal produce for sale. Many purchases were made.
After lunch we were treated to a scenic drive through Bowral to view the beautiful tulips and a brief stop in Historic Berrima to enjoy an ice cream.
Arriving back at St Charles at 5:00pm all agreed that it had been another great outing for The Young at Heart.
The 2011 schedule of outings for Young at Heart will be available from October 24th 2010. Printed copies will be available on tables at the back of the Church (or contact Peggy S +61 2 9888 9497 for a copy), with a softcopy available for printing or download on the Parish website.
All seniors are welcome to join us for good fellowship and laughter which are always in great supply.
This is an initiative of the St Charles Borromeo Parish Young at Heart Ministry. |
